Nose surgeries aren’t just about enhancing beauty; they often address significant health concerns. I’d like to share the story of one of my patients, an Indian woman living in the USA who has a deep passion for Bharatanatyam. Unfortunately, every time she danced, she would feel dizzy and even faint. Concerned, she sought medical advice and discovered that her breathing was impaired, making it difficult for her to catch her breath, especially while dancing.

When she consulted with an ENT specialist, they identified that while some issues could be managed, the extent of her nasal problems required the expertise of a plastic surgeon. She was referred to us because, while an ENT can correct the bridge of the nose, only a plastic surgeon can address more complex issues like external and internal nasal valve collapse.

Before her surgery, we took photos and had a conversation with her, as we usually do. She was a slender woman, and out of curiosity, I asked how she maintained such a lean figure. Her response was both surprising and concerning—she struggled to breathe while eating. She would frequently have to pause, stop eating, and breathe through her mouth. While she joked that it was an easy way to lose weight, I could sense the seriousness of her condition beneath the humor.
